A DAY IN ADVANCE FOR PERFORMING THE RELIGIOUS RITES FOR THE WELFARE OF THE DAPARTED SOULS
Those who come a day in advance for performing the religious rites for the well being of the departed souls (offering of Pindham - rice balls) as part of the funeral rites, should pay the charges at the offerings counter and collect the relevant receipt. One thing to be remembered is that the receipt is to be obtained in favour of the person who will be performing the religious rites and not in favour of the deceased person. This is known as 'Oraal Pindham'. The persons who remit the money for 'Oraal Pindam', can perform the rites for the welfare of the departed souls of all those who died from the Tharavadu (Ancestral Family) with or without the knowledge of the performer.
Besides this, along with an individual, other members who have close relationship, having defilement because of the death of the close relatives, can sit, side by side and perform the rites. This is known as 'Koottu Pindham'. After obtaining the relevant receipt, the performer should take a bath at dusk and stand with folded hands, thinking of the departed souls of the relatives. For those who brought Aal Roopams (Replicas), relevant fee to be paid at the temple counter.
